There is a feeling among those critical of gender ideology that you are less likely to support it if you are a parent. I think that’s probably true in general, but unfortunately, parenthood does not provide a magical immunity to this horrible mind virus. Plenty of parents do indeed support it and even go as far as to support their own kids in their “transition.” Even worse, some parents seem to actively encourage it in their children for clout and attention. Then there is the fact that you don’t need to be a parent to see that this is wrong. I certainly started speaking out against it long before my own daughter was born, and my views haven’t changed.

(Apologies to my detractors, one of whom once opined that I would be more hardline if this was affecting my dog, but my views haven’t even become more hardline.)

I will say, however, that I feel a greater sense of urgency and personal anger at those who support this ideology and its unconscionable demands. For example, I recently thought about how the Alberta NDP, MLAs like Janis Irwin and Julia Hayter, party leader Naheed Nenshi, and former party leader Rachel Notley wholeheartedly opposed the bills brought in by the UCP to push back on gender ideology. In particular, I thought about their opposition to the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act, which will ensure single-sex divisions so that women and girls can compete fairly and safely. While I have always thought such opposition is morally bankrupt and intellectually bereft, it hit me viscerally that these people would look at my daughter and tell her she has no right to fair and safe single-sex competition. Worse yet, if she ever tried to advocate for herself, they would accuse her of bigotry. There is no way they can plausibly deny this while at the same time opposing this bill and framing its supporters as bigots and transphobes.

I have always been passionate about advocating for all women and girls regardless of their personal connection to me, but it does hit extra hard that these people are advocating directly against my daughter. They are willing to actively try to harm her future in order to virtue signal for some woke points in the present.
