In the context of modern economics and social media, where the consumer of content is also the producer of it as well as the content itself, I'm not at all surprised that many people find it difficult to find an "authentic" self anywhere in the picture. But it's not a recent phenomenon. Just exacerbated and exaggerated by the intensity of social media.
